Delivering for District 5
Since my election in November 2021, it has been my honor and privilege to serve the people of Atlanta. I have passed over 643 enabled pieces of legislation including:
Abortion Fund: First city in the southeast to establish an abortion fund Access to Counsel: Providing legal access to residents who cannot afford civil legal services
Housing Choice Vouchers: Requiring all landlords receiving City subsidies to accept low-income residents receiving rental assistance
Neighborhood Case Managers: Embedding full-time, consistent, and direct case managers in our most challenged communities, helping the unhoused receive the shelter and support needed to remain safe in our community
Grocery Store Initiative: $6 million to attract major supermarkets and grocery stores in underserved areas
Department of Labor: Expanding resources for employment, training, and fair labor practices within the City of Atlanta
At the forefront of my agenda is housing opportunity for all. In just 3 years, over 7,300 affordable housing units have been built or are under construction in Southeast Atlanta. Paired with the first of its kind neighborhood case manager program, Distinct 5 is setting the standard for how we care for and house our at-risk neighbors. Additional initiatives include:
Over $10M dedicated to the Affordable Housing Trust Fund
Workforce Housing was prioritized and is coming online, affording those essential workers who serve the City an opportunity to reside in it
The Blight Tax, holding negligent property owners accountable
Another key priority has been neighborhood connectivity and protecting pedestrians. During my tenure, Southeast Atlanta has seen 100s of lane miles paved & striped through historic investments in ATLDOT with:
12,000 potholes filled
90 new stop signs & 42 new traffic calming installations in D5
Expanded safe routes to schools and ADA infrastructure
I have also prioritized green space preservation, with 270 new acres of greenspace acquired including:
Saving the Ormewood Forest
Expanding the Kirkwood Urban Forest
A historic $16 million investment in park improvements including $5 million for parks in District 5, including Bessie Branham Park, Brownwood Park, Lake Claire Park, Lang Carson Park, East Lake Park, and Cabbagetown Park
Since taking office in 2022, block by block, family by family, neighborhood by neighborhood, I have worked to make Southeast Atlanta the best place to live, for all of us. But there is more work to be done! With your support, I can continue to fight for our community down at Atlanta City Hall.
