Sustainable Infrastructure & Resilience

Act Now for a Net-Zero Atlanta

With a $2 billion backlog in infrastructure projects, Atlanta’s infrastructure has not received the planning or investment needed to sustain the city’s rapid growth. As we update our streets, water infrastructure, and broadband, we must plan proactively with long-term sustainability and urban resilience in mind. As our next City Councilmember:

  1. I will work to bundle pedestrian and ADA infrastructure with road resurfacing projects so that we can tackle the backlog efficiently while addressing our urgent roadway repairs.

  2. I will work with Invest Atlanta to create new standards for infrastructure replacement for all major developments in the City.

  3. I will push for green infrastructure, like bioswales and rain gardens, to combat our water runoff issues and traffic calming like rumble strips, chicanes, chokers, refuge islands, and speed cushions for ambulance routes so that we are building smarter infrastructure to address several issues simultaneously.

  4. I will fight to strengthen our dangerously weak tree-ordinance, removing developer loop-holes that have ravaged our tree canopy and making it easier for individuals to care for sick and dying trees.

  5. I will work with our Parks Department to identify and expand intentional green space in our city.

  6. I will push for an energy vulnerability assessment to understand which parts of Atlanta have the weakest energy infrastructure so that we can assist our most most vulnerable populations first.

  7. I will create new city recycling and compost programs, including educational programs, in partnership with local organizations to cut down on how much waste we are sending to landfill.

  8. I will hold our city offices accountable to their 2016 Climate Action Plan by implementing clear benchmarks and a strategy to meet the city’s 100% clean energy target by 2035.

So many of these plans are closely tied to how we get from place to place. To read more about my vision for transit in our community, click here.
